Nervana’s technology is a personalized knowledge discovery experience for each user. This is enabled by:

• Knowledge communities. The server crawls and indexes selected information repositories, creating structured Knowledge Communities that are mapped around the user’s areas of interest.
• User personalization: Documents, search parameters, and the end user are all profiled, and, when the user is making requests, they are combined to deliver the best possible results. The system learns about the user, including preferences, past searches, and communities of interest, all of which are stored as a complex end-user profile. This approach improves the ability of an end user to search through the available information, because it customizes the experience to that user’s unique style.
• Semantic weighting. Each document summary is provided a semantic weight relative to its semantic profile. Semantic weighting is the percentage given to a document in comparison to all other documents in the index. The percentage is based on the profiling of the document (discussed in item 2 above.)
• Semantic filtering across federated ontologies. The ontology context and filtering allows users to capture simultaneously the most relevant and timely information across different information repositories, in varying formats.
• Information repository access: Contextually searches across the relevant information repositories: Medline, patents, news feeds, and email to name a few.
