Nervana Licenses the Nervana System™ Semantic Search Tool to Procter & Gamble
Bellevue, Washington. December 5, 2005 – Nervana, Inc.

Nervana a semantic search technology company, announced today that Procter & Gamble Pharmaceuticals, a division of The Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG), has implemented the Nervana System™ Enterprise to add efficiency to its research and development programs.

The Nervana System is a search and indexing tool that uses a proprietary, semantically intelligent search technology instead of basic keyword tools, and allows users to capture simultaneously the most relevant and timely information from across many different sources. The Nervana System is the world’s most scientifically advanced and intelligent search solution, providing fast, efficient and reliable semantic search and retrieval, and allowing users to ask questions naturally and contextually.

“We are utilizing the Nervana System to mine both internal and external information sources to help accelerate the advancement of our pharmaceutical programs,” said Ray Takigiku, Ph.D., Director of Core Technologies, Procter & GamblePharmaceuticals. “The system allows us to access several information sources using the power of ontological queries to retrieve information more quickly and to locate information that we would normally not be able to identify with traditional search methodologies.”

The Nervana System indexes information according to defined ontologies and presents it to the user as relevant knowledge, all in one cohesive interface.

“Life science researchers face overwhelming amounts of information daily, with virtually no assistance in filtering, sorting, and prioritizing such information and transforming it into useful knowledge in the proper context,” says Nosa Omoigui, Chairman and CEO of Nervana, Inc. “Nervana is solving this problem today for research-based organizations like P&G Pharmaceuticals.”

The Nervana System
The Nervana System allows users to ask questions naturally in a search-like text box using a simple variant of keywords in a Boolean search, and then triangulates them with additional semantic filters. One such filter is Semantic Wildcards, which represents a new way of accessing the power of ontologies; when a user types “*:” followed by a keyword, the system automatically maps the query to all available ontologies. This mechanism allows the user to have the power of semantics with the simplicity and intuitiveness of keywords and without having to browse through the ontologies to find the right categories. The Nervana System represents the most powerful and truly intelligent search system available today.

The Nervana System can be accessed from a variety of clients, including a feature-rich client called the Nervana Librarian, a Web-based portal with a natural language aware text box, and an RSS interface that allows the user to subscribe to natural language alerts with their favorite RSS newsreader.

With the Nervana System, life sciences organizations save time and money because their research becomes more efficient and productive. By using semantically intelligent search technology instead of basic keyword tools, business managers can pursue the right opportunities at the right times.
